The newly-elected mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, reiterated that he will receive his first three paychecks in bitcoin (BTC). He had previously spoken of his plans to take a Bitcoin check before taking office.

In an interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box, Adams vowed to receive his next three paychecks in bitcoin instead of the US dollars. Mayor Adams joins the mayors of Miami, Tampa, and Jackson who had also announced plans to take Bitcoin (BTC) paychecks.

On being asked if Bitcoin’s recent volatility would have any impact on his crypto paychecks, he simply said, “Sometimes the best time to buy is when things go down, so when they go back up, you made a good profit.”

Furthermore, he also promised to transform New York City into a crypto hub:

“I think we need to use the technology of blockchain, Bitcoin, and all other forms of technology. I want New York City to be the center of that technology so I’m looking forward to that first paycheck in bitcoin.”

During his campaign last year, he made a similar pledge to turn New York into a tech hub that will be ‘the center of cybersecurity, the center of self-driving cars, drones, the center of Bitcoins’. He even urged local schools to add bitcoin and blockchain technology to their curriculum as part of his plans to turn New York into a crypto hotspot.

A former New York City police captain Adams took office on January 1 as the 110th mayor of New York City.
