Hardware wallet Ledger is launching a browser extension on Safari called Ledger Connect that will allow users to connect with Web 3 applications without the need for third party wallet dependencies.
‘Ledger Connect’ Browser Extension Launching Soon
According to an official blog post, the new feature will initially be compatible with the Ledger Nano X and Mobile Safari with support for Ledger Nano S Plus and Desktop coming at a later time.
Additionally, it will also be only compatible with Ethereum and Solana during its beta launch before gradually expanding to other protocols.
“With each step, Ledger is continuing to build the most secure Web3 ecosystem. Ledger Connect is easy, smart and safe,” For Charles Hamel, VP of Product at Ledger said.
Users can sign up for the Beta test now. Participating in the beta test requires a Ledger Nano X and an iOS smartphone.
New Security Layer
Ledger Connect will also add a new security layer called “Web3 Check.” For instance, when a Web3 app will look suspicious, “Ledger Connect” will automatically warn about the risk and potential security issues linked to past scams, hacked websites, and fraudulent smart contracts.
The upcoming browser extension will also automatically switch to the right network when connecting to a Web3 app. For instance, if the app is working on ETH, the extension will automatically detect it and connect with the user’s ETH.
