After being absent from the smartphone market that it once dominated, HTC is all set to make a comeback with a metaverse-powered smartphone on June 28.
First Metaverse Phone in the World
Originally scheduled to debut in April of this year, HTC’s Viverse phone which has yet to receive an official name was delayed due to global supply chain problems and the COVID-19 outbreak. The phone is now launching on June 28 and is set to be the first metaverse phone. The phone was first teased in an official Twitter post on June 9.
HTC describes Viverse as “an interoperable ecosystem where different content platforms interconnect to form a seamless user experience in a decentralized, secure, and open way.”
The company launched its own version of metaverse called ‘Viverse’ back in March 2022, defining it as “a metaverse ecosystem that connects people from all walks of life to an open and accessible virtual world” that aims to “connect individuals and communities across the metaverse to allow interactions in new virtual worlds using any device.”
HTC’s Long Relations With Crypto, Blockchain
This is not the first time, HTC has dabbled into crypto-friendly phones. A few years back, the company launched HTC Exodus and HTC Exodus 1s, the first smartphones to support blockchain technology, also designed as a crypto wallet.
However, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies weren’t nearly as popular back then as they are now. Hence, the niche smartphone never really took off.
